State of Illinois Report Card

Dear Morris Grade School District #54 Community,

The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) has released the annual Illinois Report Card at www.illinoisreportcard.com. The 2023-24 Illinois Report Card informs on our school district’s progress based on a wide range of educational goals.  We are extremely proud to see our students’ growth and performance in English Language Arts. We have also collaborated with ECRA Analytics to gain a deeper understanding of our students’ performance and growth and district comparative data. ECRA Analytics data lists our district data in percentile ranks, so you can view how our school district compares against other school districts and the state average on many data points.

Students in third through eighth grade taking the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) earned a cumulative 35% in ELA and 21% in Math proficiency rates, respectively. The positive data trend in ELA continues into what is called the IAR growth percentile measurement where student growth is determined by comparing students’ performance in fourth through eighth grades to their performance as third through seventh-grade students. Students are then compared to their “academic peers”—those who performed similarly in spring of 2023—and it is determined if they grew below, at average,or above average compared to their academic peers.

Students in fifth and eighth grades take the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA), which measures proficiency against the Next Generation Science Standards. Overall performance saw 56% of students receive “proficient” or “exemplary” scores, the top two of the four score indicators (state average is 52.7%).

The proficiency and growth scores on the IAR and ISA are part of what the Illinois State Board of Education calls “Academic Indicators'' and are used to determine a building’s summative designation. The other data factors examined are part of a category named “School Quality and Student Success Indicators.” Understanding the importance of community stakeholder feedback and attendance in helping to ensure success for students, these factors are combined to determine the overall “Summative Designation'' of individual schools. Information can be found here ISBE Summative Designations. There are four summative designation categories a school can be rated:

• Exemplary

• Commendable

• Targeted Support (requires four-year plan with the Illinois State Board of Education)

• Comprehensive Support (requires four-year plan with the Illinois State Board of Education)

  • Intensive Support (requires four-year plan with the Illinois State Board of Education)

I am happy to report that our district’s proactive measures to work with stakeholders to formulate our ongoing school improvement plans, Morris Grade School has received commendable ratings. Here is a breakdown of our designations:

  • Morris Grade School (Grades 3-5) - Commendable

  • Morris Grade School (Shabbona) - Commendable
